I love your blog!! I now have a new recipe book!!! Good to hear from you! Do you still live around San Marcos? How is Collette? I am glad that we can keep updated through the blog! I love this thing!
I've Learned that food goes down better in a social environment that brings the family together. A warm family atmosphere gives a child something to do other thatn stare at his plate, and a picky child who eats alone is likely to be pickier because there is little distraction. I try to duplicate the happy mealtimes of my own childhood, which were sociable & relaxed, with easy going conversation. ( Oh, wait a minute, that was a dream I had!)
Seriously though, the moment I put food down on the table, I sweep the children up in lively conversation about my day. They answer with their own stories, and before you know it, mealtime is over, without a hiccup! Realistically, in this day in age, it's very difficult for many families to actually sit down together. Even if you can't be there with your children, ask whoever is taking care of them - even if he or she is not eating - and make conversation.
So - I was always asking my friends what they were making for dinner because for some reason I can be creative in every other part of my life except dinner! --- So I thought it would be fun if we had a blog where we could share the yummy things we are feeding our families with each other. This way we can always have somewhere to look on days when we want to try something new... Your recipes can be simple or not, healthy or not - Everything goes!
Breakfast lunch or dinner!
Oh... and don't forget the dessert!
I am really excited to see what you are feeding your families!
In truth a family is what you make it. It is made strong, not by the number of heads counted at the dinner table, but by the rituals you help family members create, by the memories you share, by the commitment of time, and love you show one another, and by hopes for the future you have as individuals and as a unit.
Marge Kennedy & Janet Spencer King "The Single Parent Family"
We have learned that the most important thing about meal time is that we have it together! This time provides a great opportunity for us to bond as we hear about each other's day and give counsel and advise to one another concerning any problems.

The most remarkable thing about my mother is that for thirty years she served nothing but leftovers. The original meal has never been found.

More than just Soups & Casseroles...
"After our whole family has survived another day, with all of it's ups and downs, we come together as a family and celebrate together. We don't have to wait for birthdays or holidays to be happy together. Life is too short. It doesn't Matter that we're eating macaroni and cheese with mismatched forks. What does matter is that we make mealtime a relaxed and enjoyable time together.
Let us make our kitchens creative centers from which we emanate some of the most delightful of all home experiences"

What your Children really want for dinner...
"The number of those who report that their "whole family usually eats dinner together" has declined 33%. This is most concerning because the time a family spends together "eating meals at home [is] the strongest predictor of children's academic achievment and psychological adjustment." Family mealtimes have also been shown to be a strong bulwark against children's smoking, drinking, or using drugs. There is inspired wisdom in this advice to parents: what your children really want for dinner is you."

Think of Meal time as a Celebration...
True power is found in the hands of a worthy nurturer, especially at mealtimes.
Parents, who are "primarily responsible for the nurture of their children," can be a powerful force for strengthening families when they use mealtimes to gather loved ones. They follow the example of the Savior to calm, teach, and help their families remember important things as they feed, cultivate, educate, and rear at the consecrated tables in their homes.
